Tom Taylor is a playwright, critic, biographer, civil servant and editor of Punch magazine. Taylor had a short academic career, served as Professor of Literature and English Language at University College London in the 1840s, after which he practiced law and became a civil servant. At the same time, he became a journalist, especially a contributor and ultimately the editor of Punch. In addition to these jobs, Taylor also began a career in theater and became known as a playwright, with more than 100 plays staged during his career. Many plays are adapted from French plays, but these and his original works range from antics to drama. Most fell into oblivion after Taylor's death, but Our American Cousin, which achieved great success in the 19th century, is still famous for being performed in the presence of Abraham Lincoln when he was assassinated in 1865
Actor best known for his role as Tom Foster in the 2015 television series Doctor Foster. In 2017, it was revealed that he had been cast as Jake Chambers in Stephen King's The Dark Tower film adaptation.
